Expol is polystyrene boards with a special concertina cut on both sides to allow for up to 20mm compression to make installation easy. Expol will fit snugly between the joists without the need for fixings – in most cases, the boards will self-support.
This product has been specifically designed for insulating between the joists of timber floor homes and buildings and can be fitted to new homes or retrofit.
Expol is perfect for homes with exposed timber floors, keeping draughts and moisture out, and the heat in. It is made from flame-retardant polystyrene, is non-allergenic and non-irritant. It has excellent thermal properties (R1.4) and will increase the insulation rating of your home, reducing costly energy bills by up to 12%.
The boards are 1.2m long and 55mm thick and come in four standard widths of 560mm, 470mm, 410mm, and 360mm to fit between most joists. They comply with the Australian and New Zealand Standard for insulation and Australian Standard for manufacture.
Expol Wire Guard is available for wrapping around PVC cables before installing insulation. Non-corrosive nylon fixings with stainless steel nails should be used only where panels are loose or where the floors are subject to wind.
